August 31, 2018

Dear Family,

We have library every Wednesday.  Please remind your child to return their library books every Wednesday.  He/she may not check out new books if the previous ones were not returned.

Hope to see all of you at Parent Night on Sept. 4 at 6 PM in my classroom, Room A114.

Next week…
Math: We will focus on comparing numbers- greater than/less than. We will also continue to practice subitizing (the ability to 'see' a small amount of objects and know how many there are without counting) and number sense within 20.

Science: Students will continue to observe, sort, and compare objects based on their properties and patterns.  Students may sort objects based on: size, shape, color, texture, and relative mass (heavier or lighter than another object)

Reading:  Students will learn how to do a retelling of o story they have read. They will learn to include important details from the beginning, middle and end of the story.

Writing: Students will learn how to plan a story. They will also learn how to spell unknown words by stretching them out and by using their resources such as word walls and alphabet charts.

Balanced Literacy: Students will identify authority figures they know in their home, school, and community and will discuss their responsibilities. They will also learn about authority figures in our community, state, and nation (mayor, governor, president).
